Punxsutawney Phil Doesn`t See Shadow, Predicts Early Spring

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow Tuesday morning, forecasting an early spring for the United States.

It was only the 18th time the groundhog did not see his shadow since the tradition began in the late 1800s, according to records kept by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. The crowd in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, cheered loudly Tuesday morning when the announcement was made that the woodchuck had not seen its shadow.

Several other groundhogs also failed to see their shadow, forecasting an early spring.

On Staten Island, the groundhog known as Staten Island Chuck also did not see his shadow Tuesday morning, according to NY1.com.

General Beauregard Lee, the woodchuck that resides in Georgia, did not see his shadow, CBS 46 reported.

But in Dunkirk, New York, Dunkirk Dave did see his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter
